Overview

Built on a strong heritage of innovation, CALDON were the first company to develop and release an ultrasonic meter for high accuracy dynamic measurement of LNG.  The eight-path CALDON LEFM 280CiLT-R flowmeter is virtually immune to the effects of swirl and less sensitive to other installation effects, thereby eliminating the need for flow conditioning elements and their associated pressure drop .

In 2005 a CALDON LEFM 280CiLT was delivered for a joint evaluation between Exxon Mobil and Conoco Phillips to assess flow measurement technologies for LNG projects. These tests confirmed that the effect of swirl was eliminated by the cross-path arrangement in each chordal plane with no bias due to swirl was observed.

These tests was a catalyst for participation and delivery of our LEFM 280CiLT to major projects and in 2010 CALDON were presented with an innovation award by the reader of the flow control magazine.

Track record remains a significant consideration for selection of ultrasonic meters for dynamic LNG measurement with significant consideration to the following key aspects of design and field performance.

  • Minimising field installation effects through the ability of our 8-path technology to compensate for non-axial velocities.
  • A robust, proven and reliable transducer design demonstrating its ability to withstand large changes in temperature through two decades of field operations.
  • NMI evaluation of our calibration methodology for high Reynolds numbers and extreme temperatures, assessing our uncertainty performance and transferability of laboratory calibration to site conditions.

The LEFM 280CiLT is a result of significant research, development and   decades of operation in critical LNG applications.
