CALDON LEFM Ultrasonic C3P System

Overview

The CALDON LEFM Ultrasonic CheckPlus-C3P Electronic Unit measures feedwater mass flow to within 0.3% and temperature to within 0.6 °F (0.33 °C) when connected to the LEFM CheckPlus meter body for MUR applications. The LEFM CheckPlus-C3P Electronic Unit can be configured to monitor up to four feedwater pipes and provides centralized system integration and data output for all lines.

Designed as a direct functional replacement for the LEFM CheckPlus 2010C platform, the CheckPlus-C3P electronics provides the same automatic set-up and continuous on-line verification capabilities that assure plant operators that the LEFM CheckPlus system is operating within its design basis. The C3P platform leverages G3 transmitter technology via wall mount transmitters local to the meter spools and marks a transition from CPU to PLC-based flow integration and plant communication output in the processing cabinets to vastly improve system reliability over prior generations.

The distributed architecture of the C3P system is designed for the transmitters to be mounted near the meter bodies in the plant. By installing the transmitters near the meter bodies, transducer cable runs to the PLC-based central processing unitsare eliminated, thus leaving only a control data line to be routed. Like the M3P, the C3P’s plant communications protocol maintains backwards compatibility with prior generations. Dual central processing units provide full redundancy of system flow and data integration, plant communication interface outputs, and HMI.

The C3P was designed to allow existing customers to upgrade from their obsolete 2010C electronics platforms seamlessly. The C3P maintains the same cabinet footprints and cable termination elevations to minimize modifications to accommodate the new system. Current LEFM CheckPlus users may also benefit by reusing their existing cables, transducers, and meters when upgrading their electronics. Additionally, the C3P’s plant communications protocol maintains backwards compatibility with prior generations.
